University of Toledo Finance Club Join

Finance you practice.

Real portfolio work on professional tools, Fortune 500 CFOs in the room, and a seat in the trading room every Tuesday night. Every major welcome.

— — Open to every UT student. No experience needed.

Why students join

What you get here that you don't get in class

FactSet

Hands-on access to the research and portfolio platform professional analysts use. Most students never touch it before their first job.

CFOs

Chief financial officers from Fortune 500 and regional companies come in and take questions from the room.

Trading room

We meet in Savage SB-3200, surrounded by the same screens the finance courses use — not a lecture hall.

Competitions

Team case and investing competitions with real numbers, a deadline and a presentation at the end.

Interviews

Resume and LinkedIn workshops, mock interviews, elevator pitch practice, and career fair prep before the fair.

Merch

Club gear for active members, plus a network of people in your major who actually answer their messages.

About us

An organization built around your growth

The Finance Club exists to make finance something University of Toledo students actually do, rather than only read about.

Mission

To be an organization that can educate all UT students on finance through networking, speakers and learning events.

Who it's for

Every major. You do not need a finance background and you do not need to have invested before. Plenty of members show up the first time knowing nothing at all.

What you leave with

A resume line, a working knowledge of how companies are valued, and contacts at firms you want to work for.

Our goals

What we're working toward

Grow

Build the organization across campus, beyond the College of Business.

Build

Run events that are actually worth giving up a Tuesday night for.

Connect

Create networking and learning opportunities open to all UT students.

Place

Help members build the skills that land the internship.

The team

Executive board

Founded in 2023 by Owen Green, the club's first president.

SHARP

Student Held Asset Return Portfolio

The investing arm of the club. Members research companies, take a view, and defend it in front of the room — then the group decides together what the portfolio does.

Research

Screen for ideas, read the filings, and work out what the company sells, who it competes with and what it is worth.

Pitch

Build the valuation, write the thesis, and present it to the room. It runs on FactSet, through the College of Business and Innovation.

Decide

The group votes. You learn to hold your ground when people push back on your pick — and to change your mind when they're right.

What you learn

The skills, concretely

Valuation

P/E, PEG and EV/EBITDA multiples, and how to tell when one of them is lying to you.

Modeling

Discounted cash flow from scratch, including the assumptions that actually move the answer.

Risk

Position sizing, diversification, and what can go wrong with a thesis you believe in.

No experience? That's normal.

Most people who join SHARP have never analysed a company before. The first sessions walk through it from scratch.

Get on the email list

The club and the finance department are working on an expanded SHARP with a written investment mandate. Details are still being finalised with the college.

Speakers

Who has been in the room

Past guests have come from Fortune 500 companies, regional banks, wealth management firms and local businesses.

Titles are as of the time each person spoke to the club.

Where they came from

Companies represented at our events
